About the
Keeton's
We are Frank and
Linda Keeton. We married in 1969, have three children and eleven
grandchildren. We are so blessed with our family.
As you can tell by our photo, we love what we do. To
be able
to walk out our door and pet an elk - what a
thrill it is to live on an elk
farm in Indiana.
Linda and I purchased our first elk in the spring of 1993.
Our first
elk farm was 15 acres in Lizton, Indiana. We had
just finished putting
up fence when our five cows and one
bull arrived at our farm. My wife
told me that the elk would
hit the ground running till they hit the back
fence and continue
running. Needless to say we were a little nervous.
When the
elk stepped off the trailer,
they just walked out a few feet and
started grazing. It was very exciting to see elk up close,
and in our
pasture.
In 1995 we began to look at bloodlines, and how to improve our herd
genetically. During the
summer of 1999, we purchased 175 acres, and started building fence.
By that fall we moved
our elk herd to the new farm.
Beginning in 2001 our farm started winning at Regional Competitions and the
Internationals.
Our research into genetics had paid off. We have
had several International winners since
then. In 2005, we had
the two largest bulls ever recorded, and many young bulls
showing promise.
We spend a lot of our time just watching the elk herd and enjoying our farm
with the family.
It is truly a privilege to live in America and to be
able to live on an elk farm. What a joy it is
to go to the pasture and
visit with a new born calf.
